i came to say goodbye to you

you were off on another trip

this one a reunion of sorts
 back to your roots
to the wildlife and the dunes you loved so much

standing at your gate

waving me goodbye

your arms were full of stuff still to be packed

you were always busy but always

had time for a cup of tea

(or glass of bubbles)
and a chat

i came to say goodbye to you

to wish you a wonderful time

to give you a hug

to thank you for the pot of soup you

delivered to my house the night before

i came to say goodbye to you

knowing that you would be back in two weeks

with photographs and stories to share

i came to say goodbye to you

but
you never came back

and i miss you
everyday
