how to be cleverly passive aggressive but be careful what font you choose to use

On this rather wet and wintry Thursday in Cape Town, a few things to make you smile:-

(thanks to this link for the picture)

And then this one below - does it follow the 8 rules above?

Middle son Nic is definitely ahead of his time.  When I started my blog (and asked for his help), I had used the Comic Sans font - only for the header and then the little snippet below the header.  Nic was horrified - small letters and Comic Sans - "Mom you have got this all wrong, NEVER use Comic Sans".  Now I see there is a whole revolution about the use of this happy font:-

Nevermind Comic Sans the war has spread to other fonts as well:-

Who is Bradley, and why hath his hand wrought such abuse?  This is one of many script fonts that are supposed to approximate a cursive-y, handwritten look and have lost their charm after years of abuse at the hands of adolescent females.

Common abusers: Sorority girls.  Sorry to any sensible sisters out there who know how to use fonts properly, but you have to admit that Bradley Hand ITC makes its way into far too many college girls' IM profiles, and a good chunk of them are of the Greek persuasion.  In fact, if I had a dollar for every time I have seen a Dave Matthews/John Mayer lyric wistfully inserted into a profile (just below the "Alpha Delta Whatever, love my big," etc., and above the cut-and-pasted Windings heart/flower offset in pink), I would have me some serious dollars.

Wow, you won't believe how much is written about something as straight forward and ordinary as a font.  Too many choices cause the confusion, I say.  I really hate Times New Roman (why does a computer immediately revert to this font without instruction? It drives me mad). When you look at these different fonts and the analysis it does make interesting reading and perhaps make you think next time you change a font:-

So this is all from me for today.  It has been a busy week - visitors for supper on Tuesday night (great to see nephew Duncan again and meet his new bride Kat but I have to wait to meet baby Connor (he was still suffering from jetlag and is now in Pretoria for 2 weeks), then out for a lovely dinner last night.  The weather was great so we had a braai, sipped wine outdoors and enjoyed the first taste of summer (and the wine) and thought about all the lovely summer evenings to come, but today - back to winter.

I am now off to Forres to meet Wendy and Lynne for a drink at the fire.

I may even be tempted to have an Old Brown Sherry.  There are a few things that I will miss when winter is finally over.
