"let your boat of life be light, packed with only
what you need - a homely home and simple pleasures, someone to love and someone to love you,
enough to eat and enough to wear
and a little more than enough to drink:
for thirst is a dangerous thing"

we don't want to go outside, tonight

Last night Michael and I watched The Graham Norton Show (which we do when we are at home on a Friday night).  His guests last night were Liam Neeson (number 6 on my top 10 favourite celebs), Sir Patrick Stewart and that crazy guy Alan Davies from QI (another favourite show).  His musician last night was Ed Sheeran.  As soon as he started singing I realised that he was the singer of my new favourite song which we they are playing on the UK radio station which we stream in the office.  He is a lovely, red haired and freckled young guy (who reminds me of Nic).  He plays a quarter size guitar.

This is not the song he sang last night but take a listen and read through the lyrics as he sings.  I love it.

White lips, pale face
Breathing in snowflakes
Burnt lungs, sour taste
Light's gone, day's end
Struggling to pay rent
Long nights, strange men
And they say
She's in the Class A Team
Stuck in her daydream
Been this way since 18
But lately her face seems
Slowly sinking, wasting
Crumbling like pastries
And they scream
The worst things in life come free to us
Cos we're just under the upperhand
And go mad for a couple of grams
And she don't want to go outside tonight
And in a pipe she flies to the Motherland
Or sells love to another man
It's too cold outside
For angels to fly
Angels to fly
Ripped gloves, raincoat
Tried to swim and stay afloat
Dry house, wet clothes
Loose change, bank notes
Weary-eyed, dry throat
Call girl, no phone
And they say
She's in the Class A Team
Stuck in her daydream
Been this way since 18
But lately her face seems
Slowly sinking, wasting
Crumbling like pastries
And they scream
The worst things in life come free to us
Cos we're just under the upperhand
And go mad for a couple of grams
And she don't want to go outside tonight
And in a pipe she flies to the Motherland
Or sells love to another man
It's too cold outside
For angels to fly
An angel will die
Covered in white
Closed eye
And hoping for a better life
This time, we'll fade out tonight
Straight down the line
And they say
She's in the Class A Team
Stuck in her daydream
Been this way since 18
But lately her face seems
Slowly sinking, wasting
Crumbling like pastries
They scream
The worst things in life come free to us
And we're all under the upperhand
Go mad for a couple of grams
And we don't want to go outside tonight
And in a pipe we fly to the Motherland
Or sell love to another man
It's too cold
For angels to fly
Angels to fly
To fly, fly
Angels to fly,
To fly, to fly
For angels to die

Isn't it just the saddest song?  The song he sang on the show last night was "Drunk" - also pretty sad.  It makes quite a difference to me when you can hear and understand the lyrics.  I think I may go off and buy his CD later today.

I have been listening to music through Grooveshark since we have changed our internet to "uncapped".  However (and a BIG however) Telkom has been so shocking lately and I am ready to give them the boot.  I am convinced that they give home users a slower service because at work we have no problems.  It is taking hours for sites to open and to try and look at photographs on Facebook is impossible (how is a person supposed to stalk if all it does is frustrate you!!).  As I am writing this and switching screens everything is freezing and sooooooo slow.   Grrrrrrrrrr.............

So I am going to stop now before my good weekend mood disintegrates.  It is cool and raining outside (no garden to water) so I am heading off with my cup of tea (in my new big green mug) to the couch to watch the final two episodes of Mildred Pearce which I have not had a chance to do lately.  It is my Mom's birthday today (and Shelley's and Amy's) (Happy Birthday Mum (and Shelley and Amy)) and the family are coming over for supper this evening.  My house is full of flowers and my gifts and cards are still displayed on the dining room table (I am such a child) so I am still in birthday mode and can't wait to see everybody later.

Enjoy your weekend.  I hope you enjoyed Ed and that your internet connection allowed you to listen.
